The Bed Bug

Bed Bugs - what you need to know.

The bed bug can be tiny, so small it is hard to find.  The adult bed bug can be as big as your smallest finger nail.  Think twice the size of your average lady bug.

The bed bug can nest anywhere in your home, although they do prefer to nest on or around your bed and usually within ten feet or so of your bed.  They can also be found other places you spend quality time though, such as computer chairs, or the sofa where you sit and watch TV.

If they are nesting on your bed then chances are very good that they are climbing off your bed to lay their eggs somewhere else as well.  The bed bug probably came to your house via your luggage, that piece of furniture you bought from the thrift store, your clothes after visiting a friends home, or under your doorway if you live in an apartment or dorm.

Tests have shown that most people cannot feel a bed bug bite - even while they are watching the bed bug bite them. Some people have reactions after having been bit repeatedly by bed bug and some people see little blood smears on their sheets. Many people are unaware that they have them. Blood smears are not a reliable indicator.

The female can continue to lay eggs for up to ten days after a blood meal and most customers still feel the need to scratch long after their bed bugs are gone.

Over the counter pesticides are a joke and bed bugs can be more than just tough to get rid of, but there is hope.  We have put together a series of web pages to help you identify bed bugs, take steps to prevent getting bed bugs, choose the right treatment to get rid of your bed bug problem, and prepare for your a treatment.

They're here... and the problem is EXPLODING. They will soon be our number one area pest.

We have included some bed bugs pictures to the right.  Most of the bed bugs pictures were taken by Safeguard. We lifted one of the bed bugs pictures from the Center for Disease Control.  You might want to check out their site about bed bugs as well.  Link  If you have any of your own bed bugs pictures you would like to share with us - please send us an email.  We can always use a few more pictures of bed bugs or other pests.
