Chemicals

Many people are 'anti-chemcial'. However, every physical thing that exists is made up of chemicals, including you.

The difference between being a good chemical and a bad chemical to a scientist is often a matter of quantity.

Many chemicals in the right amount are either beneficial or neutral to our health.  All chemicals in the wrong quantity are bad for our health.  All.

This is one of the reasons that most doctors do not recognize multiple chemical sensitivity.

People who suffer from MCS tend to make broad sweeping statements such as ‘I am allergic to chemicals’, which means that they would be allergic to themselves, air, and everything else they will ever contact.

Another frequent assertion is that ‘I am allergic to pesticides’.  I have heard this statement from people smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee.

Both caffeine and nicotine have pesticidal properties and uses.  Both of these chemicals are much more toxic than the average pesticide used by professional pest control companies.

Concern about chemicals, indeed, strong feelings, or beliefs about anything, even without the presence of physical triggers can cause physical reactions. If you think something makes you sick - then it might.

Many people have physical reactions to strong odors, including perfumes and chemical solvents

These materials are known to trigger asthma attacks, physical symptoms including the constriction of nasal and breathing passages, and they can also cause headaches.

Some types of pesticides, noticeably emulsifiable concentrates, are mixed with chemical solvents which may have a strong disagreeable odor – these materials are not commonly used in the pest control industry today.  They are much more common in over the counter products sold to consumers.

If you have a sensitivity to odors – please let us know.

Most of the chemicals we use are either low odor or odor free and do not contain these types of chemical solvents. We do not use any chemcials which are known cancer causing chemcials.

We also weigh in on the discussion of synthetic chemicals versus natural chemicals.

A lot of information is spread in the media about 'chemicals'. A lot of it seems designed to further an environmental agenda or to cause anxiety.

This is not to say that you should not be concerned or informed.

Among the foods containing natural chemicals that are known to cause cancer in rats or mice, are: anise, apples, bananas, basil, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cantaloupe, carrots, cauliflower, celery, cinnamon, cloves, cocoa, grapefruit juice, honey dew melon, horseradish, kale, mushrooms, mustard, nutmeg, orange juice, parsley, parsnips, peaches, pineapples, radishes, tarragon, and turnips.

The important thing to understand is risk.  The risk from having a low toxicity pesticide, that is tested and shown to be non-carcinogenic, applied to the outside of your home is less than the risk from eating a balanced healthy diet.
