Getting Rid of Spiders

What you need to know about how spiders get to your home.

Spiders get to your house in three ways.

They crawl across the ground.  (This is the most common method.) They crawl over onto your house from attached vegetation. They float through the air. (Tiny new hatchlings let out long spider web lines that get caught in the wind and they float through the air until they hit something - like your house.)

Getting Rid of Spiders on the Outside

To get rid of your spiders on the exterior we spray:

The ground all around the base of your home, your foundation, sub area vents openings, nearby walkways, attached fences and vegetation, corners, overhangs, decks, porches, around doors and windows, and your eaves. (ask for details about eaves.)

We don't spray:

Pet food dishes or chew toys, children's toys, gardens - fruit trees - herbs.

We can try not to overspray onto windows if you like - but let us know your preferences.

Spider Control - How Much Service Do You Need?

For many customers, a thorough treatment of the exterior is enough.  Other customers will opt to have basements, garages, sub areas, interior living spaces, and / or attic treatments in addition to our outside service.

Many customers call us in the late summer and early fall when spider webs are hanging everywhere and the spider mating season is upon us - the most active time of the year.

For people who really don't like spiders, we recommend a quarterly service program for the best spider control. The quarterly services are usually half or less the cost of an initial service and they work to repel spiders as well as exterminate them. These programs will help reduce many other types of pests as well. The sprays are mainly on the exterior and the control materials we use are much less toxic to people and pets than the caffeine in your coffee.

Spider Control - Non Chemical Ways of Getting Rid of Spiders

Spider control / prevention:

Remove clutter, leaf debris, and unnecessary stuff around the base of your home.  Relocate firewood piles.  Ask us for other suggestions.

No vegetation should touch your house.  Vines should be on free standing trellises.  Trees and tree branches should be at least three feet away from your home.  Shrubs, bushes, flowers, and gardens should always be at least 18 inches or farther away and nothing within three feet of roof, gutter, or eave.

Invest in a telescoping painters pole and purchase a brush head to fit on it. For most homes, wiping down spider webs with the pole will be a weekly event during April and May and then again starting in mid July through October.

Install non toxic spider glue traps in your garage, basement, and other rooms where you see spiders. Put the traps in corners, around furnaces, water heaters and beside garage doors. We can install these or supply them for you - as we do many of our customers who don't want spraying done on the interior of their homes.
