How to Get Rid of Cockroaches 101 - Some Cockroach Basics:

If you live in multi unit housing, you may have roaches because your neighbors have roaches - they travel through walls along utility lines and from door to door.  You can bring home roaches from where you work- they are common in restaurants, electronic repair shops, in certain armed forces installations, on board ships, and in stores and warehouses that receive shipments of imported goods.  You can bring them home from where you shop for food, appliances, clothes, etc.

1 pregnant female roach can be responsible for breeding up to a million roaches in about one year.  If you see them, any of them, during the daytime, you have a huge population of roaches. They fear being out in the open. Most treatment methods fail because they do not control 100% of the roaches - and one living roach means that your problem is not under control.

How to Get Rid of Cockroaches - How We Get Rid of Roaches:

We perform a super thorough application of a dust bait / insecticide into as many cracks and crevices as we can find: in the kitchen, dining room, food storage areas, water heater area, and bathrooms.  We look for any crack the size of the width of a dime and larger.  We find these cracks under, over, behind, and inside of cabinetry, in appliances, in the framing around doorways, and in the baseboards.  We look at lighting, outlets, and anything which could have a void.

This material works really well for many reasons: like a properly applied dust it puts a light coating in a wide area in each crack or crevice - so you get really good coverage. It works if the roaches come in contact with it, but as a bait it is also highly attractive - so they want to come to it.  Finally, once the material, a naturally occurring soil microorganism starts to work on and in the roach - the roach becomes contagious and the microorganism which doesn't effect humans at all is passed from roach to roach.

Finally, we apply a no odor, fume, or vapor, super low toxicity, non-repellent spray insecticide in bands that the roaches would have to cross through to get around, such as the baseboards, around doorways, above and around cabinetry, etc..

How to Get Rid of Cockroaches - What Doesn't Work:

99% of over the counter baits, powders, and sprays do not work.

The baits don't work because no bait is attractive to all roaches, just like not all humans like fish, or yogurt, or anything else. Some roaches just don't want the bait and if that's all you use, your treatment strategy will fail.

Powders fail for at least 3 reasons. First, most people apply so much that the roaches will simply go around it. I can't even begin to tell you how many apartments I have seen with a three inch wide band of boric acid around the edges of all floor spaces and they still had roaches. Lots of roaches. Second, most people cannot apply the dusts back into all the cracks and crevices that the roaches can nest and hide in. Third, most people choose the wrong dusts to begin with. Some aren't very affective, some are highly repellent.

Almost all over the counter sprays work great on contact. However, they are full of smelly and toxic solvents. They are also highly repellent. That means that from several feet away the roaches can sense that what you sprayed is bad for them, so they either find ways to avoid what you sprayed or they hunker down and wait for it to wear off and stop working. Remember, it only takes 1 pregnant female to give you a million little cockroach babies in a year.
